IFUGAO SCULPTURE

A carving of an Ifugao native with a goat on his back depicts the traditional goat-hunting in the landlocked province of Ifugao.

This engraving reminds me of my childhood. It is a favorite ornament of our late grandfather. In fact, he named this masterpiece as “Inggo.”

Given to my father by a DPWH District Engineer when they visited Ifugao Province in 1982, the carving has been with us for 37 years now. It’s now vintage.

The Ifugao statue has become part of our clan.

The term “Ifugao” is derived from its local dialect “i-pugo” which means people of the hill.
