A glimpse of the famous front west balcony located at the Kalayaan Hall, the oldest and historic part of Malacanang, where former Philippine President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos took his last oath of office and bade farewell to a throng of loyalists and supporters (roughly 2500) on 25 Feb 1986.
Hours after the heartfelt adieu, the Marcoses was airlifted to Hawaii after revolutionists did not grant the request of the former of temporary stay in Paoay, Ilocos Norte—-allegedly to avoid regrouping.
Before, Kalayaan Hall was the Executive Building for Governors General during Commonwealth. In 1968, when the Hall underwent extensive and massive expansion and renovation, Marcos concurrently renamed it as Maharlika Hall. However, after the bloodless Edsa Revolution and after catapulted to power, former President Corazon C. Aquino, the country’s first female President, decided to name it KALAYAAN HALL.
