Riemon Magaspag Lapaza, a Butuan native and skilled bike shop and motorshop mechanic, began seriously competing in Philippine cycling in 2010 and swiftly turned professional in 2011.
His defining moment came in 2014 when he clinched victory in the 4th edition of LBC Ronda Pilipinas, making history as the first and only Mindanaoan to win a national cycling tour title.
Despite investing his winnings in land and livestock, financial struggles the following year derailed his career, forcing him out of competition and keeping him absent from major Ronda Pilipinas editions from 2015 to 2019.
In 2020, he made a brief return under Celeste Cycles PH Pro Team during the LBC Ronda Pilipinas anniversary race. However, he failed to finish Stage 8, alongside his Ronda Pilipinas champion predecessor, Mark Galedo.
Refusing to let setbacks define him, Lapaza staged a remarkable comeback in 2022, winning overall the first UCI Gravel World Series in Asia and securing a place in the 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships in Italy.
Now residing in the mountainside outskirts of Butuan, Agusan del Norte, Riemon Lapaza continues to embrace the rugged terrain that shaped his passion, proving that his journey—from national champion to international contender—is far from over.
