According to Marlboro Tour legend Bernie “Kamagong” Llentada, this was one of the most memorable stages he won, aside from his “Eagle of the Mountain” and championship victory in 1991 in the Marlboro Tour.
During the 1990 edition, Llentada claimed the leader’s jersey in the third stage (San Pablo-Daet), maintaining a solo lead for approximately 100 kilometers—one of the longest solo efforts in the history of Philippine professional cycling.

In the top photo, participants from that stage are seen passing under the San Pablo arch in Laguna en route to Daet, Camarines Norte.
Meanwhile, the bottom photo shows teammates Bernie Llentada and Federico Cruz during the breakaway in Tatlong Eme, followed closely by race director Jose Sumalde, a former back-to-back Tour of Luzon champion, alongside the iconic white Land Cruiser carrying “The Voice of Summer,” M1 Earl Sapelino.
