Climbing Maestro Crestito “Carlo” Guieb stands as one of the most iconic climbers of his generation, emerging during the golden era of Philippine cycling.
In his rookie year in 1988, Guieb shocked the cycling scene by conquering the legendary Baguio-to-Baguio lap, outclassing seasoned veterans. His unmatched record of three victories on that grueling stage (1988, 1995, and 1996) remains unbroken to this day—a testament to his enduring dominance in the highlands.
Guieb also left his mark in individual time trials (ITTs) leading to Baguio, claiming victory in the Rosario-to-Baguio ascent in 1989, and achieving back-to-back wins from Vigan to Baguio in 1993 and 1994.
With these feats, Carlo Guieb not only ruled the mountains—he made Baguio his fortress.
