Dutch climber Jeroen Meijers was the last foreign rider to dominate Filipino cyclists on home soil, seizing the overall title at the 2019 Le Tour de Filipinas.

His commanding performance stands as a prime example of international firepower prevailing in a peloton brimming with local talent.
That year (2019), the Philippines hosted three UCI-sanctioned races, with foreign riders sweeping two of them. The 42-year-old Spanish and Tour de France veteran Francisco Mancebo Pérez dominated the 2019 LBC Ronda Pilipinas in February, followed by the 25-year-old Dutch rider Jeroen Meijers’ GC victory at Le Tour de Filipinas in June.
The lone local standout was Marcelo Felipe, who fended off the foreign onslaught and clinched a podium finish in the PRUride PH 2.2 race held in May, witnessed and collaboratively covered by Dwaentertainment.
In a twist of fate, both Meijers and Felipe now ride under the same banner—Victoria Sports Pro Cycling—bringing together two of 2019’s fiercest rivals as teammates in the present-day continental circuit.
