Heartbreak at the Line: Morales Falls Just Six Seconds Short of History

The ever-resilient “Phoenix,” Jan Paul Morales, appeared distraught after finishing second at the line—narrowly missing a historic upset in both the stage win and overall classification. He alongside Joo broke the long-standing challenger-to-champion time gap record set in 1981–12.56 seconds.

Morales came heartbreakingly close to victory, finishing just six (6) seconds behind the relentless yellow jersey holder and eventual champion, Dae Yeong Joo. It was truly heartbreak on the edge of glory.

Notably, MPT DriveHub Team Captain Mervin Corpuz was the only Filipino to briefly take a virtual lead over Joo only during the final stage of the MPTC Tour of Luzon 2025.
