A renowned “Eagle of the Mountain,” Guieb became the Marlboro Tour Rookie of the Year in 1988. He is best remembered for his three incredible stage wins in the Baguio-Baguio “killer lap”—a stage other riders called hell, but Guieb called home.
Having come within the touching distance of overall victory in the 1991 Marlboro Tour championship, his disappointment was like a heavy hammer that shaped the raw metal; as the sword was forged, he secured two consecutive titles (1993 and 1994).
The pride of Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya, hung up his wheels after the final edition of the Marlboro Tour in 1998, ending his vibrant career with 12 stage wins, 16 first runner-up finishes, and 8 second runner-up finishes.
