The Municipality of Mapandan, Pangasinan, under the leadership of Honorable Mayor Karl Christian F. Vega, a cycling aficionado himself, is playing the long game and officially launching its local cycling team built for the long haul, primarily for top-level races like the upcoming National Road Championships, which will take place in Tagaytay City in February 2026.

The six-man Mapandan contingent is anchored by “Mapandan’s adopted son”and Team Captain, El Joshua Cariño, together with Julian Matthew De Guzman (18), Vincent James Quisay (19), Jhamie Junatas (20), John Paolo Soriano (20), and Kevin Erasquin (21)—all hailing from the cycling crazy town of Mapandan, which sits at the very heartland of Philippine cycling culture. The team is officially known as Mapandan Batang Vega – U23 Cycling Team, managed by Don Medario Espino Vega and Team Director Jazy Fernandez Garcia.
The Mapandan Batang Vega model resurrects the strong regional identity of Pangasinan, dubbed the Home of the Cycling Champions, famed for producing the country’s top-tier cyclists.
