Erickson Lopez Climbs Standings in Brutal Genting (Queen) Stage

Once again, Erickson Lopez (Delos Santos) strengthens his hold as the premier Filipino rider in the 30th edition of the Le Tour de Langkawi this year, outperforming regional rivals such as Peerapol Chawchiangkwang and Thanakhan Chaiyasombat.

After completing one of Malaysia’s highest and most iconic finishes at Genting Highlands, Lopez, a foreign-race and Le Tour de Langkawi debutant, moved up six spots (from 48th to 42nd) and sits 19 minutes and 49 seconds off the pace of overall leader Lennart Jasch of Tudor Pro Cycling.

“Hindi gaano kaganda performance ko ngayon. Hindi ko pa talaga makuha yung kondisyon kong 100 percent. Saka kulang pa ako sa mga supplements, pagkain at saka first-time mag-abroad at first time ko maglaro ng ganitong event,” Lopez shared.

Meanwhile, 7-Eleven’ s top GC finisher Jaypee Olarte of Pugo, La Union, follows in 48th place, with Ronnilan Quita climbing to 77th and Mervin Corpuz sitting at 97th in the General Classification.

However, despite a stronger showing during this Queen Stage, a perennial natural separator, the 7-Eleven squad falls back to the bottom of the Best Asian team classification.
