The boy next door, Jun Padilla, was a rookie in the 14-day 1964 Tour of Luzon and served as team captain of the National Amateur Cycling Team (presently Philippine National Cycling Team). That same six-man squad also included Roberto Sanchez, Daniel Olivarez, Jesus Garcia Jr., Felizardo Perdido and Norberto Arceo during that edition.
The 1964 Tour of Luzon edition served as the proving ground for Olympic-bound cyclists like Cornelio Padilla, Arturo Romeo, Daniel Olivarez and Norberto Arceo.
