The Swan Song of a Champion | El Joshua Cariño Returns Home For One Final Ride

El Joshua Cariño bookends his career by returning to the Pangasinan Team, his first cycling squad after turning pro in 2012—for one final ride.

The Barangay Landas, Mangaldan native first joined LBC Ronda Pilipinas in 2012—proudly flying Pangasinan team’s colors for a month. After that, he jumped to LBC-Spyder Team and stayed there until 2014, before transferring to Philippine Navy Standard Insurance (PNSI) later that year. His stint in the PNSI lasted until 2023.

In 2024, Cariño dropped a bombshell with a stunning team switch from Standard Insurance to Victoria Sports Pro Cycling, not as a rider but as its assistant sports director, a position he had held until 2025.

In total, the tricenarian Cariño has collected 9 stage wins, including his remarkable four career stage 5 victories.

El Joshua—nephew to the legendary Cariño duo, Samson and Ruben—is the 21st Pangasinan cycling champion in a lineage that has dominated the national cycling scene since Rufino Gabot, the patriarch and catalyst for the Pangasinan dynasty.

This year, the MPTC Tour of Luzon 2nd edition serves as the swan song for the Pangasinan team skipper, El Joshua Cariño, going down in history as the 2015 LBC Ronda Pilipinas Best Young Rider; 2018 Le Tour de Filipinas champion and sprint king; 2019 SEA Games bronze medalist and 2020 LBC Ronda Pilipinas KOM.
